My dear brothers and sisters, I am writing you because despite the trillions of dollars and countless programs and volunteers (a.k.a. heroes, patriots) working to end homelessness, poverty and hunger (hp and h) - all 3 of these problems are rapidly getting worse. Many of these programs are failing for a number of reasons that I will attempt to convey without insulting any of the wonderful people currently and/or formerly involved in these programs. If failure comes of this attempt, please understand that the shortcomings of the past and present must be laid out or else we are doomed to repeat them and the resulting suffering will continue.
I love you and all you’ve done and continue to do; I wish for none of your time to be ill spent. That being said almost all of our current programs for helping the less fortunate are well-intended but most are demoralizing and promote lazy, unproductive, anti-work and anti-family circumstances.
Despite our current programs, hp and h are on the rise every year. Living in poverty and going without proper food and shelter stunts the growth of ones mind and body to a point which can cause one to have both mental and physical handicaps and illnesses that wouldn’t normally be present. This creates lower productivity as workers, wastes expensive educational investments as well as countless other avoidable side-effects. Due to the issues discussing negative subject matter will be inevitable. But take heart, this book is committed to solutions by observing and learning from the past to build radically different programs that will be anti-laziness, pro-work, pro-family, extremely productive and cost reducing if not cost eliminating. We are talking about ending a vast amount of suffering for a fraction of what is now being spent on it. The main difference in these new programs will be instead of those in need waiting for others to build their homes, provide their food and other services, they will be given the tools, knowledge and ability to provide these things for themselves. The attempt of this program will be to make suffering from a lack of food, shelter, and money an evil curse of the past, a curse to be undone by any who are willing to take action in caring for themselves and family.
The Garden of Eden was a place that lacked suffering, had an abundance of ones needs and could only be ruined by the greed and ignorance of humans. This most closely resembles the programs to be described in this book and because of this and the fact that the Garden of Eden is an easily recognized place and term worldwide it seems fit to call these programs Eden. Besides it should only seem logical to our Christian brothers and sisters to replicate a place built by God that lacked suffering and provided for its inhabitants. The name Eden is also a reminder that according to the Bible - Ones necessities was at one point a God given right and now that they are not it is up to us to ensure those rights. Taking in idle people who are suffering and giving them the knowledge and ability to care for themselves and their family will be the main drive of Eden.
In a nation so painfully divided about almost everything, the last thing we need is another topic to divide us. We need unity and Eden will be a uniter of people who usually disagree. Republicans will like that it cuts costs, Democrats will like that it increases services for more people, everyone should like that it will end a lot of suffering. For those who believe it’s “their fault” for their situation it will be a chance to confirm their beliefs, for taxpayers it will mean less taxes and for those in need, it means an end to the begging, handouts, suffering, illnesses and shortened life spans caused by their lack of needs.
Eden will have zero unemployment, there will be work for everyone, including the mentally and physically handicapped. There will be sick days, time off, holidays, vacation time, retirement plans, rewards for the most productive, steady income and work, bonuses, rotation or switching of jobs and location if desired while retaining benefits, access to doctors, psychiatrists and other support structures.
Eden will give people facing the worst crisis of their lives the control and feeling of empowerment to overcome the situation. Imagine the wealth of untapped energy from all those suffering from hp and h. Imagine all those idle people suddenly given work and the means to be productive, have good shelter, and food. They are a sleeping beast of energy just waiting for this opportunity. Imagine the love to be had amongst people who are helping each other secure a future of abundance.
People who are without necessities will soon be facing a choice - either continue to beg, borrow and steal for your needs or become a part of a most beautiful project in which love and hard work will provide for us all.
Quotes from people including Gandhi and Thomas Jefferson will begin each section to ensure our topic stays in line with the thoughts of some of the greatest and most intelligent people in history. This books focus is on ending involuntary hp and h. Involuntary is the key because if one wants to be down and out there is not much Eden will be able to do as it is a work-based program and having someone who is unwilling to care for themselves in Eden will result in no positive gain for the individual ( i.e: housing, food, etc.) and can only serve to disrupt those who are making a positive contribution. None the less, later we will discuss ideas on how to turn them into candidates for Eden. We will also explore our current programs and costs, compare it to Edens projected costs, who they will each help, who they won’t help, where money will come from and how we can save lives in our spare time all while eliminating the national debt.
